Microsoft's changes to its Vista operating system and to Office 2007 have affected users of Summit software in several areas.
The following instructions cover each of these topics. They apply to all Summit products, though the examples show Summit Event Manager — Pro.
Installation

Security Warning when InstallingUsers of Access 2007 should install the Access 2003 version of the software. For Event Manager, that is semp2003.exe. Upon first running the installation file you will encounter this screen. Click Run. A second warning will appear stating "An unidentified program is trying to access your computer." Click Allow and the installation will complete. |

Revising ShortcutsWhen installation is complete,the shortcuts in the Start Menu point to Access 2003. Their targets should be changed to Access 2007 in order for them to function properly. There are two shortcuts to change in the Start Menu folder for each product. Right-click the shortcut and select Properties and a window similar to this will open. In each case, the target directory for Office should be changed from Office11to Office 12. |

When this screen is displayed, select Enable this content. Click OK. Startup of the software should finish normally. |

Avoiding Future Security Warnings |

Users of Vista will want to put the Summit software in a "trusted location" to avoid having to repeat the above process. When the software has finished opening, click the Office Button (upper left) to open the menu shown here. Then click Access Options (circled at bottom). |

Type in c:\semp as shown, or browse to that directory. If you are installing other Summit software, you may wish to add their folders to the list at this time. They might include: c:\seml10 for Summit

Summit Online Help Screens |

| Windows Vista does not support the on-line help system we currently use with Summit products. The user needs to install an additional program to be able to view the Summit on-line help. Microsoft prohibits developers from distributing this software or making it available for downloading. This means it must be downloaded from Microsoft and installed by the end-user. The steps to download and install this program are detailed below. |

| Microsoft requires that your copy of Windows be validated. Click the Continue button in the yellow title bar. | ![]() |

| On this screen, click the link in the blue bar, Download files below. | ![]() |

| Unless you have a 64 bit computer, select the Windows6.0-KB917607-x86.msu file and click on the corresponding Download button. | ![]() |

When asked whether you want to Open or Save the software, click Save and put it in a location where you can find it easily. When the download is complete, you will be given an opportunity to Open the file. When you Open the file, you will be warned again, and asked whether you wish to allow the programto run. Another warning will then be displayed asking your permission to continue. Click Continue. |

When you reach this window, you will know you are almost finished. Click OK. You then will be asked to Accept the license agreement. Click I Accept. The installation should proceed to completion. When closed, the on-line help screens in all Summit software should function as expected. |
