Setting up MS Outlook for interface with the Summit Suite of Software

There are 3 steps you need to complete to successfully set up MS Outlook to interface with the Summit Suite of Software.
- Ensure MS Outlook has been installed with all required features.
- Locate your Windows Messaging Profile.
- Test the sending of emails from your Summit Suite of Software
Ensure MS Outlook has been installed with all required features
The Summit Suite of Software requires the use of a fully MAPI compliant messaging system to send and process e-mails - e.g. Microsoft Outlook
It is necessary for MS Outlook to have the following:
- MS Outlook needs to be installed in Corporate or Workgroup mode not Internet Mail Only mode.
- MS Outlook needs to have installed Collaboration Data Objects (CDO).
The following table indicates with a
that the features are normally installed automatically as part of standard MS Outlook installation. The features marked with a
need to be installed by you. You will require your Microsoft Office or Outlook CDs.

CORPORATE OR WORKGROUP MODE
Step 1 - Check current set up
* Open MS Outlook
* Select HELP then ABOUT MICROSOFT OUTLOOK
* Under the wording "Microsoft Outlook 98" or "Microsoft Outlook 2000" will be either Internet Mail Only or Corporate or Workgroup.

Step 2 - Switch from Internet Mail Only to Corporate or Workgroup mode
MS Outlook 98 - click here

COLLABORATION DATA OBJECTS (CDO)
MS Outlook 2000 / 2002
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.In the list, click Microsoft Office 2000/ 2002 or Microsoft Outlook 2000/2002, and then click Add/Remove or ChangeClick Add or Remove Features. Click the plus sign (+) next to Microsoft Outlook for Windows to open it. Locate Collaboration Data Objects - it may have a red cross
- Click on the down arrow next to the cross and select the Run From My Computer option
You may be asked for your Microsoft Office or Outlook CDs at this point.
MS Outlook 2003
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon. In the list, click Microsoft Office 2003 and then click Add/Remove or ChangeClick Add or Remove Features - Next. Tick the box 'Choose advanced customisation of application' - Next Click the plus sign (+) next to Microsoft Outlook for Windows to open it. Locate Collaboration Data Objects - it may have a red cross
- Click on the down arrow next to the cross and select the Run From My Computer option
You may be asked for your Microsoft Office or Outlook CDs at this point.
Locate your Windows Messaging Profile
In laymen's terms, the Windows Messaging Profile is the password that opens the lines of communication between the Summit Software, Windows Messaging and Microsoft Outlook.
To locate the Profile, take the following steps:
- Open the Control Panel (Click on the Start button then select Settings)Double click on the Mail or Mail/Fax icon
- Click on the Show Profiles button and write down the Messaging Profile displayed (example below)
Test the sending of emails from your Summit Suite of Software
- Open Summit and go to the Personal Details / People screenType in your name and email addressDouble click on your email address and the Email Details screen will appearType yourself a message and ensure that the Windows Messaging Profile recorded is the same as the Profile found in Step 2. If it isn't then type in the correct Profile.Attach a document. Anything will do eg. MS Word Document.
- Click the Send button
You have been successful if the message sent can be found in the Outbox or Sent Items folder in MS Outlook.
