Updates to Summit Software

Updates to the Summit programs you purchase from Eventek may be downloaded from this page. There is no additional charge.

If you did not purchase your software from Eventek or SummitLink, we recommend you go here to obtain updates.

Important considerations

  It is not necessary to install each new update to SEMP that is released. Many of the changes are minor, such as increases in speed of a function or a fix of an obscure bug that the vast majority of users will never see.
   If your current software is running stably and to your satisfaction, we recommend that you review the changes made since the release of the version you are using by clicking on the links to the right. Then decide whether the improvements are significant enough to warrant upgrading.
   You can find what your current version of Summit Event Manager - Pro is by selecting About Summit... from the Help Menu. Your current version number will be displayed at the top of the About Summit screen after the words Summit Event Manager - Pro Version

  • If your software has been customized:

   Updating old software with the files provided here does not patch your existing program, but replaces it entirely, including any forms or reports you have modified in your existing installation. It is possible that these modified items can be replaced into the updated version and will function perfectly.
   But if the updates contain changes in the same objects that you have previously altered, reinstalling your changes may cause you to lose some of our new features. In some cases conflicts may even result that interfere with certain functions.
   For this reason, when updating your modified software, take the following steps:
1. Compact and repair the software.
2. Rename or make a copy of your semp folder as a backup. The update process will create a new folder.
3. Apply your update to the new installation and test to be sure the custom features work properly.
4.Test related features in the software to be sure they function as expected.

   Even though it is highly unlikely that your data files will be affected by any conflicts between versions, it is always wise to back up your data frequently, especially during the early phases of using a new software version.
   When Eventek provides customizations to Summit software, they are in a form that uploads seamlessly through the Update module in a single step. We recommend that you follow this model when creating your own modifications for convenience in carrying your modifications into future updates.
   If you have questions about the advisability of updating your modified software, please contact us.

If you have been using Access XP or earlier and have recently updated to Access 2003, you should

  1. uninstall the previous version through Windows' "Add or Remove Software" utility in the Windows Control Panel (under "Settings" in the Windows Taskbar);
  2. do a new installation of the 2003 version, followed by the correct regional update;
  3. read this short article about Access 2003. It explains how to reset the Macro Security settings in Access so that you do not receive a warning each time you start Summit.

Selecting an Update File

Each of Eventek's major applications comes in several flavors. We have different versions tailored to the specific needs of users in the U.S. and in Canada and to different versions of MS Access. Users on a LAN who use different versions of MS Access may require different Summit installations, but will still be able to work with the same data files. It is advisable for all users to install the same version number of the Summit software.

• New Installations — These will prepare your computer with the correct system files, and should be used if you have not previously installed the program on your machine or if the installation has been removed with the system's "Add or Remove Programs" utility. These versions are completely functional, but not ideally suited for users in North America and not necessarily the most current ones.

• U.S. and CanadaThese updates will bring your installation up to the current version and tailor the program to your locale. They are not needed until you have purchased the software and begun to use it with your data.
